A newly introduced species that appears to be quite rare in the wild. This is a strong grower and will probably end up being a very large plant in the garden. Very large, glossy and hairy leaves (almost bristly looking – very different from anything else that I have seen). The original introduction (JN#) has bloomed here with very large and white, lightly fragrant flowers (in mid-spring) proving it is actually a Fortunea and not a member of subsection Maculifera as was assumed. These are grown from hand pollinated seed produced here in the garden. Best in light shade or woodland conditions. One of the finest new introductions in the past decade or more.
