Rhododendron qiaojiaense CGG#14027

A newly described species (2008) probably most closely related to decorum. This new taxon differs from that familiar species in many minor botanical characteristics but can easily be distinguished by the much shorter and more rounded leaves and more compact growth habit as well as the longer rachis in the inflorescence. Similar large and showy, fragrant flowers of white to pink (late spring to early summer). These are grown from seed collected in the wild from a very isolated and disjunct population in a newly explored region. Pronounced something like “cheow-jiense”. Beautiful glossy young growth.
