A beautiful species which is quite new to cultivation. This is a large-growing Fortunea and is similar to the species fortunei but with much larger and longer, very shiny leaves. The flowers are somewhat similar as well but more purple-pink (darker than those of R. fortunei) and about a month earlier in the season. These are grown from hand-pollinated seed produced here at the RSBG from plants grown from wild seed. Native to the same mountain in southern China as R. yuefengense so we are assuming it will be of similar hardiness.
