Our first offering of this newly described and newly introduced species. As seen in the wild, the most outstanding ornamental feature of this unusual species is the multi-colored smooth and peeling bark, very similar in appearance to the bark of a Stewartia pseudocamellia. This is a member of subsection Irrorata and will eventually form a large shrub or tree. The foliage is dark green and glossy and the white flowers (mid-spring) appear on quite young plants – no long wait to see the flowers on this tree-forming species! This has proven to be easily grown and hardy in the garden. These seedlings are grown from hand-pollinated seed produced here in the garden.
