A relatively newly described species. This is considered to be related to the widespread, though rarely cultivated, species – R. micranthum and has similar flowers that are small and white in rounded clusters, much like a ledum. The very distinct glossy foliage is long and narrowly elliptic and densely brown scaly beneath. Quite rare in the wild, currently known only from a small area in eastern Guizhou, China.
