A newly introduced dwarf species with small bell-shaped rose-purple flowers in the autumn, very distinctive small and very dark gray-green elliptic leaves and a very dwarf and compact, but “tree-like” habit. Native to the eastern Himalaya, this is basically the western “purple” flowered form of the yellow-flowered monanthum from the Yunnan/Myanmar frontier although they are easily distinguished visually. An epiphyte in the wild, this requires excellent drainage, great in a moss-lined hanging basket. This is a very rare taxon in cultivation which has been introduced from the wild only this one time (2005). 

 Easy and vigorous hardy species with deep purple to reddish or pinkish funnel-shaped flowers (mid-spring).  These are grown from seed collected in the wild.  One of the hardiest of the Trifloras.  This is a floriferous, adaptable and vigorous species that forms a large and bushy upright shrub – perfect with augustinii, rigidum and/or davidsonianum.

Rounded evergreen shrubs with glandular-sticky new growth and more or less bristly stems. A beautiful foliage plant, this species has shiny dark green leaves with deeply impressed veins. The lower leaf surface is covered with a distinct yellowish to yellow-brown or tan indumentum. The bell-shaped flowers are white to pink or rose, often striped with pink and with a darker blotch and/or spots. A fine woodland species, best in light shade. Only recently re-introduced from the wild, this is a variable species in terms of both foliage and flowers. This offering has been grown from hand-pollinated seed produced here at the RSBG. Nice large plants!

A semi-deciduous to evergreen, very hardy shrub that blooms in early spring, before almost any other species. The flowers range from pink to purple and even white and the fragrant foliage turns purple-bronze in the autumn/winter. Best in sun or light shade. Native over much of northern Asia. These are grown from seed collected wild in the Eastern Sayan Mountains of southern Russia.
