Agapetes scortechinii

Agapetes are evergreen shrubs related to blueberries (Vaccinium spp.) but with larger and showier flowers. This is a species from the cloud forests of Malaysia that features long arching stems with thick and leathery, very glossy leaves that are rounded in shape and up to almost three inches in length. The tubular flowers are quite thick in texture and bright red in color, matching the red swollen calyx – a very striking appearance. Relatively new to cultivation and a great addition to the palette of Agapetes species in cultivation.
