COMPANION PLANTS

This is a very large-leafed herbaceous perennial which can reach five feet in height under ideal conditions. The huge (to two feet across!) round deciduous leaves are peltate (like an umbrella) and bristly pubescent with an irregularly lobed margin. The white flowers are borne in a slightly nodding panicle (like an Astilbe) in early summer. A stunning accent plant for cool, moist humus-rich soils.  Excellent in the woodland garden or near water. Choice and always a “conversation piece”. Native to Manchuria and North Korea so very tolerant of cold temps. A great perennial plant - rarely offered.  

An extremely rare evergreen shrub or small tree in cultivation. This taxon is sometimes included within the variable A. chinensis complex. This distinct species has very large and leathery leaves that are quite glossy and very coarsely toothed. It tends to grow more in the shape of a small tree rather than a bushy shrub like most other Aucuba species and cultivars. Our first offering of this choice ornamental which will add a very "tropical" look to your garden.

The Hardy Variegated Begonia is a stunning species found growing naturally in the mountains of the Sino-Himalaya. This relatively hardy species features large palmate leaves with striking variegation and rose-pink flowers. Mulch heavily in winter to protect the roots, the plant will not emerge until early summer. Fine in a container. Our first offering of this choice wildflower.

This selection features flowers of pale cream- yellow and are the closest to a true yellow of any Japonica camellia. This cultivar flowers over a very long period of time each spring and the flowers become more yellow as the season advances and the temperature rises. Very glossy foliage, best in light shade. Quite lovely and uncommon in cultivation. A truly stunning flower - this is our first offering of this outstanding selection.

Our first offering of this spectacular camellia with peony-form flowers that are dark pink, rose-red and red, and are speckled, blotched and splashed with white variegation in different patterns on the petals. The bright yellow stamens protruding from the middle of the flowers adds to the overall beauty of the unusual blossoms.

An absolutely stunning evergreen shrub. This camellia features small and glossy, pointed leaves on a specimen with a strongly pendulous (cascading) habit, quite striking and unique in a camellia. The new growth is reddish and the bright pink buds which adorn the plant all winter open to small white flowers in spring. Nice large plants in one-gallon containers.

A stunning camellia with large “formal double” flowers (no mass of stamens in the middle and the petals are very geometrically arranged) in mid‑spring. The coloring of this selection is quite lovely with the overall look of soft, clear pink with white overtones, especially toward the center. As with all of the japonicas we grow, the flowers drop off once they have finished. One of our favorites in the garden and rarely offered for sale.

This rare selection features formal double flowers of bright white. These are crisp and last for a long time. The spent flowers shed quickly. Very glossy foliage, best in light shade. Quite lovely and uncommon in cultivation.
