A very distinct and deservedly popular evergreen azalea from Japan. The long and narrow, hairy leaves are matched by the similarly-shaped lavender petals of the flowers in mid-spring. An amazing foliage plant. Best if staked for a year or so until an adequate root system develops, after this it is quite dependable.
This selection, also known as 'Nuccio's Purple Dragon,' is similar to the familiar ‘Linearifolium’ but has normal sized leaves and the floral petals are a bit wider, but quite showy and distinctly shaped - the strap-shaped petals are bright purple. Forms a dense evergreen mound with hairy foliage. Best in sun or light shade and one of the most asked for plants in our nursery.
