The climbing hydrangea is a deciduous woody climbing vine with flattened corymbs of whitish to cream flowers in early summer. This species has aerial roots that will cling to trees or walls, thus allowing it to climb without support. We have it planted on our large native Douglas firs in the garden, and these have turned out to be spectacular specimens and real crowd pleasers. Protect from hot afternoon sun in most climates. Like any hydrangea, this can be cut back to reduce overall size.
