This species forms a basal rosette of soft and hairy bright green leaves with the large (two inches long) white flowers on short stalks from the center of the plant. The flowers are enclosed for half their length in a fuzzy green calyx and feature a bright yellow flush in the throat - quite stunning. This species is in continuous bloom for several months each year. Native to southern China and Vietnam.

The “Japanese climbing hydrangea” is a deciduous woody climbing vine with flattened corymbs of rose-pink flowers in early summer and with very dark green, heart-shaped leaves. This species has aerial roots that will cling to trees or walls thus allowing it to climb without support. We have it growing on our large native Douglas firs in the garden and these have turned out to be spectacular specimens and real crowd pleasers. Protect from hot afternoon sun in most climates. Like any hydrangea, this can be cut back to reduce overall size.
