Hedychium wardii

A relatively hardy ginger-lily with a giant terminal raceme of large and deep yellow “orchid-like” flowers atop the broad and shiny deep green leaves in early autumn. This is a clumping perennial with the general appearance of a large orchid or small corn plant. One of the largest-flowered species in the genus. A bold foliage plant that will reach three or more feet in height when grown in light shade in a decent soil with some extra water during dry spells. Grown from seed collected from wild-collected plants.
