A very exciting new introduction. As with the newly introduced \u003cem\u003ecardiobasis,\u003c\/em\u003e this will prove to be one of the most important introductions in the last twenty years. This species forms a large and rounded, but very upright-growing shrub with large, deep green, very thick and leathery rounded leaves with a cordate leaf base – a stunning plant in foliage. In early summer, it bears amazingly long and narrow, very upright inflorescences of bell-shaped pink flowers, each lobe with a darker pink strip – stunning! They are reminiscent of the flowers of \u003cem\u003eyuefengense\u003c\/em\u003e and appear at the same time of year. Basically, this taxon comes from the same elevation and habitat in S China as \u003cem\u003eyuefengense\u003c\/em\u003e but on a different mountain and with a completely different look\/growth habit (very stiff and upright and not wide-growing like \u003cem\u003eyuefengense),\u003c\/em\u003e and with much more vigor. Beautiful and shiny new growth, probably best in light shade and has been perfectly hardy outside here so far.
