The early spring flowers differ from those of \u003cem\u003ecalophytum\u003c\/em\u003e in their slightly different shape, and in the fact that they are a solid pinkish-purple in color. Quite rare in the wild, two separate expeditions have failed to locate this species in the Jinggang Shan of western Jiangxi where it is thought to be endemic. This appears to be an isolated, far eastern extension of the \u003cem\u003ecalophytum\u003c\/em\u003e complex. Grown from hand-pollinated seed produced here in the RSBG.
